Austria: a new law extends the legal framework surrounding teleworking

Austria’s Parliament has just passed a new law that makes the rules governing teleworking more flexible and more precise. Drawing on IT advances, teleworking can now be done from any location with Internet access, such as coworking spaces and cafĂ©s. Submitted to parliamentary vote on 04 July 2024, the new law, ‘Telearbeitsgesetz’ will come into force on 01 January 2025.

Following an overwhelming vote in the Austrian Parliament’s Social Affairs Committee on 27 June 2024, the 2021 ‘Home Work Act’ has been amended and replaced by the ‘Telearbeitsgesetz’ (Telework Act). The text was submitted to parliamentary vote on 04 July 2024 and will come into force on 01 January 2025.
