Gero Furchheim, Ecommerce Europe: “The challenges posed by marketplaces, often based in Asia, are the current priority”

With the General Product Safety Regulation coming into force on 13 December 2024, but with no enforcement guidelines having been published since, mind Retail spoke with Gero Furchheim, the new President of Ecommerce Europe. On February 5, the European Commission asked EU co-legislators to remove the customs duty exemption for parcels under €150 and to strengthen customs controls. What is your opinion on this? 

Gero Furchheim: Since June 2024, Ecommerce Europe has raised the alarm about non-compliant products entering the EU via marketplaces, often based in Asia. This issue must be taken very seriously.
