EU: the European Commission presents its new strategy on health and security at work

In a message published on February 21, 2007, the European Commission presented its strategy for the 2007-2012 time period in terms of health and security at work. Its goal is to achieve a 25% decrease on work accidents during that period. In order to get it, it wants to lay the member States' national strategies and non binding instruments. (Ref. 070166)

While paying homage to former legislative interventions, which form a “vast corpus” which helped to improve working conditions in member States and to make considerable progress to reduce accidents and illnesses related to work, the Commission is carefully avoiding stepping on the legislative ground for the 2007-2012 period.
