United Kingdom: punishments for companies which fail to report their gender pay gap

A bill which will force big companies to report the pay gap between men and women every year from 2018 has finally been unveiled. Such firms, which will need to include consultants and some freelance workers in their calculations, risk sanctions if they do not comply.

As of 2018, all private UK companies, with 250 employees or more, will have to annually publish on their website the difference in pay between male and female workers. The bill (The Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017) will complement the country’s Equality Act and follows an announcement made by the UK government in February (see article n°9502).…
