mind RH analysis – Agreements focused on older workers more common in France but still heavily focused on end-of-career arrangements

At a time when a bill on the employment of experienced workers is about to be adopted in France, mind RH has analysed French company agreements on the employment of older workers that have been signed since the dedicated national interprofessional agreement (accord national interprofessionnel, ANI) of 14 November 2024. Though our analysis shows that social partners recognise the need to support the employability of workers aged 50 and over, measures to facilitate early retirement remain the preferred option.

Mind RH has listed and studied 69 company agreements dealing with the employment of older workers, signed since the ANI on the employment of experienced workers was agreed on 14 November 2024 up to the end of June, covering a period of seven and a half months. These include agreements on job management and career paths (GEPP), intergenerational agreements, agreements on diversity and inclusion, and some specifically dedicated to older workers and end-of-career issues. This analysis highlights a proliferation of the latter two types of agreements since our study conducted between 1 January 2023 and the publication of the decrees implementing the pension reform on 11 August of that year (also covering a period of seven and a half months). These have more than doubled, from 19 (out of 74 agreements and amendments dealing with the subject) to 43.
