In the United States, in response to Donald Trump’s decision to raise customs duties to 145% on Chinese imports and end the de minimis rule from May 2, Asian e-commerce giants Shein and Temu are set to raise prices. On April 17, in a note to customers, they announced a price increase on April 25.

To remember: At the same time, both Chinese companies are reducing digital advertising spending on social media platforms in the United States. According to data intelligence platform Sensor Tower, from March 31 to April 13, Temu’s daily advertising spending in the United States on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snap, X and YouTube fell by 31% in a month. For Shein, spending on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest fell by 19% over the same period.
