Germany: in 2011, worked and saved working hours and the work week increased

More work, more overtime, more working people.  The number of hours worked in Germany increased in 2011.  over the 3rd 2011 quarter, 11,776 million hours were worked, i.e. 1.3 percent more than over the 3rd 2010 quarter.  Over the year, Destatis is banking on a 1.8 percent increase compared with 2010, 4.3 percent compared with 2009.  the number of active workers and self-employed workers also increased, by 1.3 percent, up to 41.2 million in 2011 (40.3 million in 2009).  However, the ratio between full-time and part-time work has barely changed between 2009 and 2011 (65 percent full-time, 35 percent part-time).  Logically, the number of paid extra hours also increased, by about 0.94 percent.  In 2011, there were about 1,400 million extra hours, as opposed to a little over 1,000 million in 2009.  the number of unpaid extra hours isn’t included, but the IAB thinks it is about the same as paid overtime.  The work week of full-time employees went from 37.76 hours in early 2009 to 38.17 hours in September 2011.
