At a cabinet meeting on Thursday 29 October, Greek minister for labour Yiannis Vroutsis unveiled the five main areas of focus of his labour reform bill, which in the coming weeks is to be the subject of a public consultation before being tabled in parliament. Expected to raise tensions, the bill will target a reform to the right to strike, by creating a right to resort to a collective dispute which would be “of equal importance to the right to work”, and will seek to introduce greater working time flexibility.
The bill has five areas of focus, which so far have only been stated in the minutes of the cabinet meeting of 29 October. The first pillar is to consist of the overhaul of the digital platform ΕΡΓΑΝΗ, which is where information is exchanged with the labour ministry on the management of labour relations, in order to eliminate certain formalities.
