According to eMarketer, the trade war between the world’s two biggest retail markets is taking a toll, especially on China. In 2019, Chinese retail sales are expected to grow by only 3.5%, said the eMarketer company. This is far below the national growth target of between +6% and +6.5%. A principal reason is the fall in demand in the Chinese car industry. This is dragging down the entire retail sector, since the vehicle industry accounts for 14% of Chinese retail sales.
