At the tenth session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, participants agreed on the creation of a universal labour code for the 1.2 million seamen throughout the world. The European Commission, which was already very active during the elaboration of this code, plans on introducing these norms in Community law, in order to guarantee their effectiveness.
