Whereas the hostile offer launched by the American aluminum maker Alcoa to its Canadian competitor Alcan ends on July 10, the European Metalworkers Federation (EMF) gathered on June 21 in Brussels, staff representatives and unionists from both groups in seven countries (Germany, Spain, France, great Britain, Italy, the Czech republic and Switzerland). This union coordination in particular asks for a joint meeting of both groups' European works councils. (Ref. 070575)
During this meeting, staff representatives from both groups “debated the takeover plan and decided of a common strategy,” the EMF announced.
