Yesterday, on 28 October, the Alstom European Works Council finally issued its much awaited positive opinion on the absorption of Alstom Power into General Electric. This decision will allow the two companies to close the legal process of consulting employee representatives — on national and European levels — and therefore keep to the operation’s initial schedule. In exchange, the management of both companies have agreed to unilaterally offer a sizeable number of guarantees. As regards job security, no firm guarantee has been secured. The German President of the EWC, Kai Müller, was willing to offer Planet Labor details of the measures contained in the charter drawn up for this operation.
The EWC gives the green light. On Tuesday 28 October, the Alstom EWC issued a positive opinion on the integration of Alstom Power into the structures of the American company General Electric: “to reach this decision, in the absence of a significant amount of important information on the situation as well as the respective intentions and futures of the two companies, we took two elements into account.
