Argentina: unions support the nationalization of the YPF oil company

A historical claim for Argentinean unions.  “YPF is becoming Argentinean again” said Hugo Moyano, general secretary of the General Confederation of Labor (Confederación General del Trabajo, CGT), supporting the bill the government presented, aiming to make the YPF oil company national again – taking 51 percent of Repsol’s shares.  The leader of the official workers’ federation says this is an old claim for Argentinean unions.  “Us workers embrace the government’s decision to take over Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales, the national oil company” he said.  Moyano denounced “twenty years of usurpation” and he compared this nationalization with the State getting the Aerolineas Argentinas airline back over recent years, as well as pension funds.  “A national, popular project cannot do without a national oil company, otherwise our people and our country’s political sovereignty and economic independence would fall prey to foreign interests” Moyano said in a press release.
