Austria: 4.15% wage increase in the temporary sector

4.15% and new minimum wages.  65,000 Austrian agency workers are going to receive a 4.15% wage increase on January 1, 2012, for one year.  Regular bonuses will also be increased in the same amount.  This is the primary outcome of the sector’s collective negotiations, which smoothly ended on November 23.  “The sector really enjoyed the economic recovery last year.  It was even more important for us to reallocate part of the reward from last year’s recovery” explained Thomas Grammelhofer, negotiator for the PRO-GE union.  In more detail, the increases will follow wage categories, ranking between 4 and 4.3%.  For its part, sectoral minimum wage will go from €1,327.48 up to €1,381.05 a month.  Regarding gross hourly wages, minimum wage goes as follows: €15.74 for advanced technicians (Techniker), €12.79 for specialized workers with specific skills (qualifizierte Facharbeiter), €11.15 for ‘simple’ specialized workers (Facharbeiter), €9.81 for skilled workers (not in the industry, Qualifizierte Arbeitnehmer), €8.82 for skilled employees and €8.25 for unskilled employees (ungelernte Arbeitnehmer).  This last category includes unskilled workers who have been in the company for at least one year, which is obviously quite common in the sector.
