In spite of the last minute turnaround of the Post AG's management, which announced on November that the 9.000 job cuts and the closing of 1.000 offices were only the elements of one of the possible "accounting scenarios" for a severity plan, unions are preparing strikes for the Christmas period. The supervisory board of
the Post AG – of which the Austrian state still owns 51% – was booed by the Austrian
post’s employees while meeting in Vienna on Wednesday. From the beginning of
the meeting, the four staff representatives decided to leave the room to
protest against the Post’s intent to dismiss 9.000 people and close 1.000
offices by 2015 (1.000 offices have already been closed since 2002.)
