It is after their second meeting that the energy social partners concluded an agreement on the evolution of wages and bonuses in the sector. The agreement, which affects 18,000 employees, provides for increases ranging between 1.45 and 1.6%, depending on the categories defined in the sector’s pay scale. Unions and employers also negotiated a clause, quite frequent in Austria: a “division option” (Verteilungsoption). The latter provides that businesses may give 0.3% of the increase function of internal criteria. In that case, this option and the division modalities will have to be subject to an agreement with the company’s WC. When a company uses this clause, it has to grant a minimum 1.3% wage increase to all its employees, i.e. a total increase of 1.6%. Besides, apprentices will see their allowance increase of 1.5%, like bonuses.
