Austria: energy sector avoids a strike and negotiates an increase up to 4.2 percent

The 21,000 employees in the energy sector won’t have to take their banners out to defned their wage increase.  While, on Monday, February 13, the preparations for two days of protest were in full swing, the negotiators of the two unions in charge, Pro-GE and GPA-dip, as well as the negotiator for the Österreichs Energie emloyers’ organization, tried one last-chance meeting, after three unsuccessful attempts.  Under the threat of a social conflict, this meeting led to a compromise on wages.  The employers’ federation is talking about a “fair joint solution” while unions are rejoicing of “solidarity between the employees.”  They got a high wage increase are reached the same level as the high agreements in the metal (4.2 percent) and oil (4.3 percent) industries.
