Since January 1, 2008, Austrian social partners can negotiate, at both branch and company level, an extension of usual daily and/or weekly working time, respectively to 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week. Negotiations started in several branches. (Ref. 080109)
At the end of 2007, the Austrian government and Parliament ratified the broad lines of the agreement on flexible working time which social partners signed on May 3, 2007 (see our article No. 070399). The new provisions which amend the law on working time (Arbeitszeitgesetz) enable social partners to negotiate, at both branch and company level, a working day up to 12 hours (instead of 10,) and a 60-hour working week, and this for a 24 weeks’ period instead of 12 before (8 hours in a row maximum.
