One of the EU's star pupils in terms of employment has registered a boom in partial unemployment measures and plans 30.000 dismissals by the end of January 2009. To soften the consequences, the federal government also allowed access to partial unemployment for agency workers. (Ref. 081034)
The impact of the crisis is now being felt on the Austrian labor market. Regarding unemployment, the decline is still on a gentle slope. After a slight drop in October, the number of jobseekers has increased again in November, for the first time in two years and a half. From October to November, national unemployment has gone from 5.6% to 6.2%, leading to 286.000 unemployed people. And future prospects are even worse. The National Bank of Austria thinks that there will be 45.000 additional jobs
