Belgium: adoption of a draft royal decree to strengthen the prevention of industrial accidents in risky businesses

The Council of Ministers of November 21, 2008 approved a draft royal decree which clarifies and amends the mechanism of the "aggravated risk" provided for in the law on industrial accidents of April 10, 1971. The new decree, adopted after dialogue with the social partners and insurers, obliges companies with a rate of industrial accidents higher than the average in their sector to pay additional contributions to their insurer. The insurer then uses these resources to sponsor prevention actions in the company. (Ref. 080933)
