About 30 days before the deadline set by the Constitutional Court to get rid of the differences between blue-collar and white-collar workers, the government failed to agree, during the Council of Ministers meeting of June 7, on concrete tracks in order to reach an agreement on the single status. At a tripartite meeting in the afternoon, the government gave union and employers’ organizations a list of 12 questions to help them come up with the status. They have to try and provide answers by the end of the week. The day before, the trade unions joined forces and about 35,000 people demonstrated in the streets of Brussels. (Ref. 130383)
12 questions, 1 status. The questions are about very specific issues. First, they refer to the form: as far as the method is concerned, should we find an agreement on layoff notices alone, as they are much shorter for blue-collar workers than for white-collar (28-112 days for the former; 3 months for every 5-year period that has started for the latter), and on the removal of the waiting day for blue-collar workers (their first day of sick leave isn’t paid), or on the entire status...
