Belgium: report on negotiations in the metal industry

Metal construction.  Metal construction (CP 111) is the biggest sector in the metal industry.  The equal committee (CP) notably includes aeronautics, metal construction or even the auto industry.  The social partners reached a draft agreement on Monday, May 16th.  The text was sent for approval to the union affiliates – ACV-CSC Métea, the CGSLB and MWB-FGTB – and employers’ affiliates – Agoria – knowing that the latter wants all unions to ratify the agreement before signing it.  What does the text provide for?  The social partners agreed on a 0.3% wage increase, in line with the 2011-2012 cross-industry agreement (see our dispatches No.  110040 and 110122), as well as a €250 eco-check on October 1, 2011 and October 1, 2012.  The text adds that these two provisions may be subject to a company agreement.  Thus, the amount of the eco-checks (in theory aimed to purchasing green products or services) will be included in the salary following the modalities determined in the cross-industry agreement.  The future collective agreement also provides for a 0.2% increase in pension funds.  On this, the MWB-FGTB’s socialist Walloons, ideologically against pension funds, negotiated that the increase be granted under different conditions negotiated at local level.
