This annual report, which compares the Belgian situation with three neighboring countries (France, Germany and the Netherlands) for these three areas, serves as a reference for wage negotiations. The Central Economic Council (CCE) considers that “conventional wages should increase in Belgium, in the private sector, during the 2007-2008 period, of about 4.2% n average, as opposed to 4.7% in 2005-2006. Let us remind that social partners at the interprofessional level had agreed on an indicative 5% standard wage evolution for that period. “The indicative wage standard was mostly used during sectoral negotiations” the document points out.
