After long months of secret negotiation, social partners reached an agreement on September 14, 2007, enabling the 2008 social elections to be successful. In addition, they committed to find a solution to implement the European directive on workers' information and consultation, for which Belgium is threatened of a new condemnation by the Court of Justice. Belgian social partners thus ended their disagreements about the size threshold applicable to the coming social elections which will take place in companies between May 5 and May 18, 2008.
Status quo. For this vote, they agreed to keep the rules that were effective for the 2004 social elections, that is to say a committee for prevention and protection at work (CPPT) in every company of at least 50 workers and a works’ council for companies with at least 100 people employed.
