The Council of Ministers of December 5, 2008 adopted a draft royal decree which extends the transitional period for Bulgarian and Romanian workers for three more years, from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2011. Nonetheless, the government may put an end to that period before 2011 via a royal decree. (Ref. 080983)
Since their
countries joined the EU on January 1, 2007, Bulgarian and Romanian workers
cannot freely access the Belgian labor market. However, they can get a work
permit without a prior evaluation of the labor market if they perform a job
where the local government acknowledges there is a shortage.
