In an opinion adopted on October 10, 2008, the Belgian social partners request a legal intervention to legally secure positive action carried out at the level of sectors and businesses to promote equal treatment. (Ref. 080802)
Securing positive action was one of the commitments taken by the Social Partners in the 2007-08 interprofessional agreement. While acknowledging the improvement of anti-discrimination legislation in Belgium with the three laws passed on May 10, 2007 (see our dispatch No. 070467), the Social Partners think that it should be possible to “go beyond formal legal equality to concretely move towards actual equality.”
