The federal government launched, during the Ministers council last April 27, an ultimatum to employers and unions : they have to find, by May 31, 2007, a compromise on union representation in small businesses in order to guarantee that social elections will take place in May 2008. (Ref. 070395)
Social elections enable to appoint personnel representatives within works’ councils (WC) and in committees of prevention and protection at work (CPPW). Currently, only the company (or rather the technical exploitation unit), which usually employs 100 workers in average, has to establish a works council. However, it seems that starting from the next social elections, the company will have to establish a works council as soon as it reaches at least 50 workers.
