On Friday 20 February, Benetton announced its intention to contribute to the Rana Plaza victims’ compensation fund. The Italian company is the last — of those operating on the premises — to make this commitment to the subcontractors working in the building, which collapsed on 24 April 2013, killing 1134 and injuring many. In just 15 days, more than a million people signed the online petition — launched by the campaign community website Avaaz — demanding the managing director of the company to contribute to this fund. The international trade unions IndusriALL and UNI Global, who also led campaigns for the Italian brand to compensate the victims, expects that it offers great clarity regarding the sum and its payment.
