Brazil: 106,000 new jobs in April, third consecutive month with job creation

Job creation increases, unemployment rate as well. Job creation is quickening, especially in services – over half the jobs created. However, with the negative results revealed in January, the balance over the first four months of 2009 amounts to 48,454 new jobs. It only went above zero thanks to the results obtained in April. Yet, unemployment keeps increasing. From 6.8% in December 2008, it soared to 9% in March, its highest level since august 2007 (9.5%). In Brazil, unemployment rate doesn’t take into account jobseekers from the informal economy; it is only based on the number of jobseekers in the six major cities in the country.
