Since taking up office on 01 January 2019, Brazilian President Bolsonaro has already started detailing his vision and intentions in terms of labor and employment reform and as a result has sparked the start of trade union and labor court magistrate mobilization.
The day after Jair Bolsonaro officially took office, Brazil’s new President signed a decree that eliminates the Labor Ministry, the duties of which will be taken over primarily by the Ministry of Economy (Ministério da Fazenda), but also by the Ministries of Citizenship, and Justice. Trade unions and magistrates from the Labor Court have fiercely opposed the move. The former department’s civil servants are also worried over the implications for safeguarding workers rights.
