December was the month that saw the worst job losses at 35,500. Since 2011, the industrial region has lost a total of 609,000 jobs with 518,000 of those in just the last three years between 2014 and 2016, and with 2015 experiencing a massive 235,500 job losses. Brazil: industries federation indicates that 152,500 industrial sector jobs were lost in 2016 in São Paulo
For the sixth year in a row, the São Paulo industrial basin, Latin America’s biggest has seen the number of jobs fall across the industry sector. On Thursday 19 January the Industry Federation for the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) together with the Industries Centre (Ciesp) released the jobs numbers for 2016, which showed that the sector lost 152,500 jobs or employment fell 6.58% compared with 2015. Sector unions are in discussions with the new Mayor over both an action plan to mitigate the impact on workers and on an economic development policy.
