Brazilian authorities have decided to lighten reception formalities for immigrant workers coming from neighboring countries. From now on, they will only need a labor contract to get a visa. Currently, in Brazil, there are 400.000 Latin American workers, legal and illegal, who compensate fro the workforce shortage in the building sector, agriculture and manufacturing sector, especially in the south of the country. Before, Latin American workers who wanted to work in Brazil notably had to present a labor contract, give proof of two years of work experience and a diploma in secondary or higher education. These tough requirements shut the country’s doors too many low-skilled workers. If they emigrated anyway, they found themselves working illegally in Brazil.
