Brazil: Renault employees on strike to increase profit-sharing

The 3,500 metalworkers of Renault’s Curitiba factory, in the Parana State (south of the country), approved, on Monday, May 17th, the continuation of the strike launched on Friday, may 14th. The workers are expecting a new offer from the management regarding the increase of their bonuses. Right before launching the strike, the trade unions rejected the latest offer made by the French carmaker to grant a bonus between 6,200 and 7,500 reals (€2,790 and €3,375) per employee as profit-sharing. The workers demand 9,000 reals (€4,050) as a bonus. In its latest offer, Renault removed the requirement to produce 187,000 vehicles a year, which unions see as “unreal.” Because of the strike, around 760 fewer cars are produced on the site each day.
