On March 11, Employment Minister Jason Kenney, and Shirley Bond, the Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills signed a job grant in British Columbia as part of the renewal of the Labor Market Agreements 2014-15. British Columbia is the latest province to sign such a grant and other provinces and territories are to follow. Ontario and Quebec already signed. The agreement signed includes the renewal of the Labor Market Agreement (LMA) — now renamed the Canada Job Fund — and the creation of the Canada Job Grant.
Since 2007, Canadian provinces and the federations government sign Labor Market Agreements (LMA), in return for which they receive subsidies to help those who have strayed from the labor market. They are now the Job Fund to ensure greater employer involvement in training. The government intends to dedicate $500 million (€325) per annum to training.
