Unifor, the newly-created union (see article No. 7901) that claims to be the organization that makes a difference, will be holding a series of conferences across the country over the next few weeks as part of a nationwide “Rights at work” campaign. The goal is to remind about the advantages of organizing whereas, at federal level and in the Ontario province, the conservatives are coming up with initiatives questioning union rights.
The meetings started on January 13 in Windsor (Ontario) and will finish in St. John’s (Newfoundland) on February 27. Each meeting consists of national as well as local and regional leaders and researchers. Proposed issues include opposition of the Rand Formula and Bill C-525. One of the main issues raised was the federal Bill C-525, which proposes to count, when calculating votes for union recognition in the federal sector, the votes of workers who didn’t vote as having voted against it.
