Carrefour: the brand new international union alliance calls for a joint assessment of the framework agreement

Tense relations. On May 20 and 21, the international alliance of union networks, UNI Carrefour, created in October 2009, met for the first time in Nyon, on the border between France and Switzerland. During this meeting, the representatives talked about the implementation of Carrefour’s international framework agreement. While the company is reorganizing its firms in Belgium, France, Italy and Spain, the European representatives said that relations with the management were complicated, the latter failing to inform or consult them about the engaged process. In Latin America and North Africa, the representatives also say that relations between the company and unions are tense. However, in Turkey, where the representatives just signed an agreement on working conditions (pay, holidays…), the context is more favorable to social dialog, as in Romania, according to the representatives.
