China: debates over the increase in retirement age

By suggesting, last September, that retirement should be increased, Dai Xiangiong, chairman of the board of the Chinese social security fund, sparked off a debate on the internet, showing a wide gap.  The fact remains that demographic ageing is going to put a lot more weight on the young old-age insurance scheme (set up in 1997, it hasn’t had time to make provisions) than it can handle.  (Ref.  130670)
