On 12 June, World Day Against Child Labour Day, the Hong-Kong-based NGO, China Labour Bulletin, published an article detailing significantly lower use of child labor, but that notwithstanding, certain problems persist, and that new abusive practices are emerging.
In its 2007 report, the China Labour Bulletin observed that child labor was ‘ a widespread, systematic and increasingly serious problem in China.’ The report highlighted in particular shortcomings in the rural education system as the main cause for children leaving education, which in turn created a supply of child labor for companies.
