Corporate practices: BMW launches the “Produktionsystem 2017” project, assembly lines adapted to demographic ageing

All manufacturing firms on the old continent are now wondering the same thing: how can we keep improving production rhythm and quality with experienced but ageing workers? Bavarian carmaker BMW has been trying to come up with a concrete answer since 2004 when it launched the “today and tomorrow” program, a program which deals with everything: management of health, the evolution of the work environment, training, change management…. It is within this framework that the German carmaker decided to extend the “Produktionsystem 2017” project to all the factories of the group now, aware that the “demographic turn” started a while ago.
