Although fiercely contested by the unions, the Croatian parliament adopted on July 15 2014, the new reform to the labor law. This reform came into force on August 7 2014. It aims to loosen legislation governing working hours, cancellation of employment contracts and types of temporary employment.
Working hours. The new law extends the maximum working hours per week to 50 with the possibility of up to 60 hours per week if stipulated in a collective agreement. Maximum allowed overtime hours are maintained at 180 per year (250 if stipulated in a collective agreement), however going forward, employers have to submit a written request to the employee requesting overtime work.
