The Croatian government has announced a €100 increase in the gross minimum wage, which will rise from €700 to €800 on 1 January 2024, marking a 14.28% hike, the largest since 2008. The new figure corresponds to around 52% of the latest average wage in Croatia, as disclosed by the country’s Bureau of Statistics, and therefore exceeds the 50% target proposed (in a non-binding manner) by the European directive on fair and adequate minimum wages, which was definitively adopted in September 2022.
