The Cuban government is to introduce wage incentives within national corporations to develop the economy. Traditional egalitarianism is now considered obsolete. The maximum salary will be abolished and "efficient" workers will be better paid than their "inefficient" colleagues. (Ref. 080876)
Between now and January
2009, Cuban businesses will have to adopt the remuneration system according to results,
the so-called “pago por resultados” included in the new reform promulgated by a
resolution by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Each employee will now
receive a salary depending on their merit and the “tope salarial”, or maximum
salary, will be abolished. The aim is to revitalize the domestic economy, the development
of which is considered too slow by Cuban authorities. Indee
