Czech Republic: commentary of the Labour Code amendment

Trial Period. The amendment provides for the possibility to agree on an extended trial period of managerial employees up to 6 months (instead of the current 3 months applicable to all employees). A managerial employee means every employee supervising another employee; this includes both white and blue collar managers (e.g. the head of a clearing crew). The amendment further adds a restriction to fixed-term relationships – the trial period can be no more than half the duration of fixed term employment relationship which is important in case of a short contract. The amendment also requires a suspension (prolongation) of the trial period if the probationary employee takes holiday during the trial period.
