Hyundai's Czech factory announced, on January 7, that it was going to reduce production given the low demand for new vehicles. The company will reduce working time in its Nosovice factory to four days. New measures could be announced if demand doesn't get better. The agreement signed with unions states that employees will receive 68% of their average income for non-worked days - 8% more than provided for by law. (Ref. 090052)
Czech regulations on the reduction of working time. Sections 208 and 209 of the Czech labor code state that, when an
employer has to reduce weekly working time because of dropping sales or demand,
he can sign an agreement with unions stating that employees will receive at
least 60% of their average income. In the absence of such an agreement,
employees can ask for all of their wages (at the risk of threatening the entire
company – hence the relevance of such an agreement).
