Czech Republic: new obligations on employers resulting from the reform of sickness insurance

The health insurance reform will be complete on January 1, 2009. Pavel Jakab, lawyer at the Peterka & Partners law firm in Prague, is commenting for Planet Labor the impact of this reform on employers, who will now be responsible for paying wage compensation for the first days of sickness themselves. Give employers a sense of responsibility. The new sickness insurance legislation provides that an employee who has been incapacitated for work will only be entitled to sickness benefits after 14 calendar days. Before that, the employee will receive a compensatory wage from the employer. This employer’s compensation corresponds to 60 percent from the adjusted average salary.
