Unions from the Czech car manufacturer Skoda (group VW) called on a day of strike on April 17 in order to back up their wage claims. After over eight negotiation sessions, unions had already launched a warning strike last April. (Ref. 070349)
The car manufacturer’s management offered a general 10% raise spread on two years, whereas unions are asking for a 17% raise this year, followed by a renegotiation next year. The former wage agreement expired on March 30, 2007. During the negotiation, unions also refused a new payment system which would give more weight to the pay’s variable part.
