The management of the banking group Danske Bank (24.000 employees) and the special negotiation body gathering staff representatives from 12 European countries reached an agreement, on December 10, for the creation of a European Works Council. The information-consultation procedure is inspired by that planned in the directive on the involvement of workers in the European Corporate Society. (Ref. 080148)
An agreement for the creation of a EWC was necessary after the acquisition of the Sampo Bank, which had subsidiaries in Baltic countries. The new agreement replaces that on the EWC created in 2005.
