Meeting in Aalborg, from 25 to 27 October, the 400 LO delegates elected Lizette Risgaard as the head of the main Danish trade union confederation (17 trade unions representing almost 1 million workers). A woman of dialogue, the new president would like to strengthen the influence and visibility of trade unions at all levels. Two big tasks await her: forging the path towards a merger with the Confederation of Professionals in Denmark (the FTF, which is very present in the public sector) and managing tripartite negotiations with employers and the government, set to get underway in a few weeks.
A strong woman for a weakened union. With 312 votes out of a possible 400, Lizette Risgaard has become, at the age of 55, the first female president of the largest trade union confederation in Denmark.
