The law prohibiting the closed shop practice was adopted on May 8, 2006. It challenges the Danish practice of exclusive agreements, which involves approximately 200 000 Danish employees. (Ref. 06619)
A legal precedent. In the case Sorensens C Denmark and Rasmussen against Denmark, the Strasbourg-based European Court of humans rights had condemned, last 11 January, Denmark to pay 75 000 euros to two Danish nationals who were obliged by their employers to adhere to a trade union to be recruited.
