Denmark: end of the 2014 sectoral collective bargaining round

Yesterday, March 17, Asbjørn Jensen, the conventional mediator (forligsmand), presented, together with the DA employers’ organization and LO union, the draft agreement (mæglingsforslag) for renewing more than 500 collective agreements in the private sector, for the next 3 years.  This deal ends the bargaining round started last January.  Indeed, the two confederations, in addition to coordinating these negotiations, are responsible for negotiating the conventional mediator’s compromise which, if approved, applies to the sectors where the social partners couldn’t reach an agreement.  In total, 35,000 employees are concerned (9,000 members of NNF, the slaughter industry).  Following tradition, all agreements signed are “tied” in the draft compromise and subject to workers’ vote, which will be organized between March 21 and April 10.  Shortly before the end of the negotiations, the banking, insurance and food industries renegotiated their collective agreement.

Key novelties of the latest sectoral agreements. On March 13, Finanssektorens Arbejdsgiverforening (FA) for employers and Finansforbundet for unions stroke a deal in the banking industry, after a break last February and two strike notices. The new collective agreement, which covers about 50,000 employees, provides for a general 1.70 percent increase for the 1st year, 1.75 the 2nd and 1.80 the 3rd, and is also going to set up a joint fund for the development of skills, in order to improve work
